Obituary- Cdr R.Ganapathi

Cdr Ganapathi

On 12th August 2022 Cdr Ganapathi, a pillar of all aspects of chess, including correspondence chess and chess problems, a proficient bridge player, and retired naval officer, passed away in the early hours of the morning. He was 93.

Cdr Ganapathi's begun playing correspondence chess in Correspondence Chess Federation of India (CCAI) in the post-card era and I recall a game I played against him.

Cdr Ganapathi came 3rd in the first Engine Forbidden AIWCF Championship in 2020. In the AIWCF Bulletin 2002 Second Issue, we published his Auto-Chess-O-Graphy.

10 years back, I too played a tmt with him. I used to be the Games Editor in those days & after seeing my analysis of his game, he wrote to me asking why I didn't play in the AIWCF championship. So I decided to participate in my debut championship, 1508. Always wearing a cheerful smile, hope you are still smiling from above. RIP great soul..πŸ™
