Tributes to Shri Shams Khan

  1. Dr. Chatterjee: AICCF sends our condolences to Shams Khan’s family. Request Anil Anand to collect all the comments from Whatsapp group to publish in the Bulletin. Anil Anand may please reprint his Auto-chess-o-graphy.
  2. Dr. Alok Saxena: Very sorry to hear that. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
  3. Pervez Godrej Mandviwala: May Almighty give courage to his loved ones to bear the loss. I have played many games around 1995 and won a couple, lost a couple when I was active in AICCF. Recently I gave up my games in “No engine” tourney since I was losing and mainly because he wasn’t replying (very unlikely), so I didn’t try for a draw- my miniscule tribute to AICCF legend- RIP! (Ed: The game is featured above) I also played KID- in which he was good and I lost!
  4. K Valsan: Really a sad news. He was a very nice person. Enjoyed playing many games with him. May the departed soul rest in peace!
  5. Anil Anand: It is very sad to hear about Khan sahab’s unexpected demise. Gem of a person! May his soul RIP! He had probably beaten every top AICCF player at some time. He first wanted to play with me when I had joined AICCF recently in 2003 and had beaten the then champion Mr. Lhouvum. Since then we played a lot of friendly games by Email. I first lost to him in 7291 in Email chess. His miniatures have featured in so many AICCF Bulletins.
  6. Om Prakash Mohanty: He has lived as an inspiration to all. All hail Shams jee. I can guarantee I won’t last as long as he did. Physically and mentally way ahead of us. If he had knowledge of computers, he could have beaten us all. I can’t forget the chat on King’s gambit (his favourite opening) with him. May God bring peace to his soul. Never saw a positive man like him!
  7. Lalit Kapoor: Shri Shams Khan was a great chess player. His game in Chessmate (Ed: reprinted above) inspired me to join AICCF. May his soul rest in peace!
  8. Arghyadip Das: Rest in peace. Enjoyed our games in AICCF. He even encouraged me. Learned so many things. Thank you sir.
  9. Amit Sharma: It is a great grief. He was a great player as well as humble man. May God give peace to his soul!
  10. Ankur Singh: Sad to hear. Rest in peace.
  11. Dilshad Kausar: End of an era. He was a complete institution for people like me!
