AIWCF Webserver Update
AIWCF Server ran smoothly during this 6-month period since the last Bulletin, except for the exceptions noted below:SERVER OUTAGE
On 22nd December 2022 at about 7pm, AIWCF Server was suddenly showing Service Unavailable. After switching to GoDaddy this is the first time we had an outage. We phoned GoDaddy and they confirmed that they were fixing a problem in a fibre-optic channel. Early next morning, the site was running again. Such outages were common with our previous service provider (QualiSpace) but had never happened after switching to GoDaddy. The incident is quite distressing and we hope it will not happen again.
Stephanie Ellison reacted to the incident in the WhatsApp group, raising concerns about using a provider based in Tempe Arizona. We explained that GoDaddy has independent operations in India and, as far as we know, is one of the best webserver service providers in India.
SERVER EMAIL RESTRICTIONS FINALLY RESOLVED
From 18th November 2022, GoDaddy suddenly imposed a 30 second delay whenever an automated email was sent by the server. This was causing a 1-minute delay whenever a player clicked the confirm button while making a move, so we had to stop email move notifications to players. However, with recoding, we have now restored email move notifications (from 22nd Feb 2023) using a new email queue system. Other emailing functions are gradually being moved to the new system. Bulk email, to send notices to all members, is presently being handled manually while we are still working on reprogramming the automated bulk email feature.
SUGGESTION OF OM PRAKASH
Om Prakash and Gautam De, suggested that the Games List of players should have links for every game taking you to the cross table of the tournament. Earlier I thought this was not necessary, but in view of the strong opinion expressed, this was incorporated on 30th May 2022.
