The first issue of AICCF Bulletin 2019 was well-received by you. We were quite overwhelmed by the positive responses received. Me and Mohan Turaga, the Games Editor, shall continue to strive harder to ensure that the Bulletin is released on time and to the high standard that is expected of us by the AICCF Management and our Readers.

This edition has some erudite but practical articles on Endgames by Dr. Chatterjee and by the reigning AICCF champion, Omprakash Mohanty. We have featured an interesting article on Smith Morra gambit by Santhosh Paul. Late N.Neelakantan, who unexpectedly passed away in 2017, had published an excellent article on this gambit in 2012 which is updated with fresh insights and interesting games. This Bulletin will serve as AICCF’s humble tribute to him.

An interesting feature of this issue is the return of Corchegimmick, this time an interesting position given by our reigning champion, Omprakash Mohanty.

In Chess Tidbits, several important chess events since the last issue are provided for the information of the chess enthusiast. We also pay our respects to veteran chess player Nasir Ali, the only winner of both National B and National A, premier National tournaments in 1967. It is good to see that today we have 64 Grandmasters in Over-the-Board (OTB) play since Vishy Anand become India’s first Grandmaster in 1987, 32 years back! However, we have only one single ICCF Grandmaster in P. B. Dhanish (2014) so far but the number of ICCF CCE’s and CCM’s is on the rise.

Looking forward to your constructive criticism on the Bulletin and wishing our Readers a very Happy Dussehra and Happy Diwali.

Sincerely Yours,
Anil Anand
Bulletin Editor
