The AICCF Championship is poised for a photo finish! Presently Gautam De and Ganesh Hegde are tied at the top of the table. R.K.Chauhan is at the 3rd spot.

According to the rules, ties are to be resolved in the following order:

  1. Direct encounter (Results of tied players against each other)
  2. Greater number of wins
  3. Sonneborn-Berger Score (also called Neustadtl Sonneborn-Berger Score)
S.B.Score is calculated by adding the sum of the scores of the players he has defeated to half the sum of the scores of those he has drawn against
  4. Koya system (Number of points acheived against all opponents who have scored 50% or more)
  5. Toss of coin

In the present situation, assuming that R.K.Chauhan does not win his last remaining game against Anil Anand, Gautam De would emerge AICCF Champion on the basis of Greater number of wins.

2Ganesh Hegde10.5761.04.5

If R.K.Chauhan wins against Anil Anand (the game is on move 50) there would be a 3 way tie at the top 3 spots. However, even in that case, Gautam De would still emerge Champion on the basis of Greater number of wins.

2R.K.Chauhan 10.5762.755.0
3Ganesh Hegde 10.5761.504.5

Tie breaks are often thought to be a matter of luck. Tie break rules are also not the same across different servers. In AICCF server, the rules favour a player who has taken a greater risk in his play. Gautam De lost his game against Om Prakash, but he is the only player among the first three to win against Mohan Turaga. One loss and one win gives the same score as two draws but helps in the tie-breaker.

AICCF congratulates Gautam De in advance of the conclusion of 1517 since he will be the Champion irrespective of the result of the one remaining game. R.K.Chauhan would come 2nd in case he wins his last game. In any case Ganesh Hegde would make it to the prize list (either 2nd or 3rd place). So advance congratulations also to Ganesh Hegde and R.K.Chauhan!

REACTIONS OF THE CHAMPION

"Oh! What a surprise! I couldn't expect it. In fact, following your message in March I was thinking that SB points will count first to determine a tie-break result. But glad to see that AICCF rule of greater number of wins gets the priority. In this process, this will be my becoming Champion for the second time."
